This is just appalling and ridiculous:

Passers-by ignore Chinese toddler crushed by traffic

A toddler is struck by a white van in a narrow market street, then crushed beneath its wheels. The driver fails to stop. As she lies prostrate, a line of pedestrians and motorists passes little Yue Yue (悦悦). Some look at her on the ground, but none stop. She is run over by a second van, her tiny arms flailing in pain. Eventually, a woman picks the youngster up and props her against a sack of rice. Yue Yue Chen Xian Mei’s mother arrives on the scene and her distraught parents are filmed in their moment of agony. This appalling tragedy took place on Thursday, October 13 in the southern Chinese city of Fushon, Guangdong province. CCTV footage of a procession of passers-by ignoring Yue Yue has shocked the nation and the world — prompting difficult questions about human nature, morality, and the law.

Makes us wonder what has happened to humanity. Society and laws have created a dilemma in people that should never have been present in the first place: Should I help others and risk getting myself into trouble, or just ignore others that very obviously need my help? A young 2-year old girl lies in pain and dying on the streets and people just walk past her because they're scared of prosecution, because of a previous incident when a man was prosecuted for helping an elderly woman after she fell over, as his intervention broke government rules on dealing with accident victims. It's just shocking how the idea of "好心没好报" (having a good heart/doing something good/helpful, does not bring about good consequences) has permeated deep within our society and is ingrained in so many people that they can just ignore their fundamental human moral code to avoid trouble for themselves.

And the most ridiculous thing is?

The woman who helped the poor toddler and refused to ignore her like the other people heartlessly did was accused of "wanting to be FAMOUS".

I mean seriously, what kind of nonsense is that. It's already bad enough that people don't want to help the poor girl, but accusing the one person who has a kind enough heart to stop by and try to help out is just too much. People should be applauding the old woman instead of claiming untruths about her!
